This course encompasses all of the required elements needed to work as a proficient and effective sports massage therapist.
A base-level understanding of anatomy and physiology is crucial for a Sports Massage Therapist and this unit provides the foundational knowledge of the human body covering a number of body systems in detail. This unit offers fundamental content to enable Sports Massage Therapists not only to understand the structure and function of different body systems but how exercise and physical activity affect the body both short and long term. It builds proficient knowledge for everyone embarking on a career in the fitness and/or sports massage industry.
A Sports Massage Therapist not only needs to be familiar with body systems such as the cardiovascular system but furthermore complex systems such as the endocrine and lymphatic systems as well as a robust understanding of the skin organ and posture. This advanced unit studies the molecular science of a selection of body systems. In addition, it will look at how these systems and the body as a whole respond to the physical demands of exercise. Finally, a recap of the roles and locations of muscles will also be covered.
In this unit, we will cover the systems of the body that sports massage therapists need to know about to deliver treatments to their clients effectively. This will give a great base of knowledge to build on in the next modules.
This module will help the Learner to understand the components of fitness and how the body responds to exercise. This will complement the knowledge gained from the first module and will also give the Learner a wider understanding of the body and how to apply this to sports massage.
Having gained the knowledge learned from the first two modules this module will then move on to learn about the standards and protocols relevant to the sports massage therapist’s profession. This will equip the learner with the information needed to be able to become a practising sports massage therapist.
learners will study different types of soft tissue dysfunction and how they can assist the healing process with sports massage. This gives a deeper understanding of the benefits of the practice and how they can make a difference to their client’s healing and wellbeing.
In this module, you will learn how to carry out client assessments and apply a range of treatments to assist recovery. This module will give the learner the practical knowledge behind all of the theories learnt in the previous modules. This is where the learner will become confident in the treatments they will be delivering to their clients in the future.
While much of this course will be taught through our award-winning and flexible e-learning platforms, you will still benefit from the practical experience taught in our in-person workshop and assessment sessions.
