Group Pilates class

Approach gyms or health clubs to teach Pilates classes

As a qualified Pilates Teacher, you will be able to work at a gym or health club as an employee, or as a freelance Pilates instructor. You will be able to have your own regular slot on a class timetable and teach to a variety of abilities and levels.

Gyms and health clubs will have mats and equipment available for your use during teaching and all the hard work of marketing your classes will be done for you by the club, ensuring that paying members have access and information about their services. Working within a health club setting will also open further opportunities for cover work during holidays as you will be working as part of a team, there may even be the opportunity for one to one Pilates, training the private members within the facility. Classes generally schedule morning and evening and you will be paid by the hour.

Studios

Hire a studio and start your own private class

There are various options when searching for a premises to run your Pilates business from. You may decide to hire out community centres, church halls or school gyms in a variety of locations; targeting a wide audience.

Hall hire costs vary between £10-£30 per hour depending upon size and location. Researching competitors to find a suitable location would ensure that you get the best start in launching your classes. This is a great way to offer your services to your local community and promote Pilates and wellbeing. Classes can run as a block booking or a course, or alternatively as a pay as you go class. There is the option of hiring just one venue on a regular basis and launching your own Pilates studio. This would give you the space to run a variety of classes and one to one sessions, from where you can build your clientele and develop your service offer.

Become Level 4 specialist

Become the best that you can be! Having the knowledge and skills to work with a variety of clients will open many doors and opportunities. Pilates attracts all different types of clients who may have medical issues or be recovering from an injury. As a level 4 specialist, you will be able work in rehabilitation and advise clients on the best course of action, prescribing movements that will support their recovery.

Gaining further training and qualifications at level 4 will enhance your offering and develop your professional portfolio. Pilates is recommended by many healthcare professionals, furthering your education will enable you to accept referrals and target a niche market. One to one training can take place within your home, or within the client’s home and small specialist group sessions can be held in local halls.

Work alongside a physiotherapist

Pilates is becoming more recognised by health care professionals as an effective form of rehabilitation. Once you have become a level 4 specialist, you can contact your local healthcare services to find out about opportunities. Often Pilates teachers set up one to one or small group classes in local physiotherapy practices and work closely with the healthcare professional to understand individual client needs.

Another method of working alongside a physiotherapist, is to build up professional relationships with professionals within your area and set up a referral scheme for clients. Once they have finished their physiotherapy treatment, they can then be referred to you by the healthcare professional with a full overview of their health and any limitations.

Sports clubs

You could work with football or other sports clubs

Many high-profile sporting professionals are now embracing Pilates as part of their training regime. This has raised awareness and highlighted the benefits that Pilates can bring to compliment other exercise disciplines and sports. Many sports work through repetitive motion, working the same muscle groups over and over.

Practicing Pilates will help to rebalance and work the muscles in symmetry, correcting muscular imbalances, enhancing the performance of the sport and guarding against injury. As more sporting professionals become aware of the magical qualities that Pilates can bring, this opens new opportunities for Pilates professionals to target sports clubs and offer their services. After all, you can’t play if you are injured!
