Jane Mackenzie

With both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in education, I have worked across HE, FE, Work-based Learning and Adult Community Learning, as well as specialist educational settings.

I have been delivering sports and fitness classes, and training other fitness instructors for more than 25 years now. Initially, I started teaching swimming, skiing, basketball and Boccia (bowls for disability groups), and then moved into the fitness industry after living in the USA for a year when aerobics was at its height in popularity.

I then worked for 10 years in a college as a Course Leader, Assessor and IAQ. I worked on the Gym and ETM courses, and developed their Level 2 Aqua NVQ course. It was a privilege to work with students with mental, physical, visual and hearing impairments in both sports and fitness.

I have also been lucky enough to have worked as a presenter, delivering my passion - Water-based Exercise - around the country, and hope to do more of this now I am again working full time in the fitness industry. I have also delivering CPD workshops for instructors to develop their skills further.

In recent years, I have worked on a government driven initiative to develop the use of technology in the classroom. This has given me the skills to bring learning to people nationally and internationally via webinars and online conferences. I am hoping to utilise some of these skills with Future Fit Training.

Fitness Qualifications - ETM, Gym, Aqua (deep and shallow water), Step, Personal Trainer, Fitness Pilates, Disability, Chair Based Exercise, Chi ball, Safeguarding Children.

It was inevitable that my love for the water would flow into my leisure time too, and I am a keen Kiteboarder and Stand Up Paddle Boarder. You will always find me in the water no matter what time of year.

What is your ethos?

Everyone can learn and enjoy sports and fitness no matter what their ability and skill level. The key is enjoyment and fun. With the right support anything is possible. Set high standards for your learners, and they will reach for the stars.
