Established in 1891, the Royal Life Saving Society UK trains more than 93% of all pool and beach lifeguards throughout the UK and Ireland. Their comprehensive programmes ensure that individuals are equipped with essential lifesaving skills, promoting safety in, on, and around the water.
With over 13,000 members and 170 affiliated clubs, RLSS UK is the most trusted name in water safety education and lifesaving training. Their mission is to be the leader in lifesaving and lifeguarding in the UK and Ireland, sharing their knowledge with as many people as possible, giving everyone the potential to save lives and enjoy water safely. Each year, they deliver more than 350,000 awards, from vocational lifeguard qualifications to community-focused lifesaving skills for all ages. Whether it’s swim teachers, first aiders, or volunteer responders, they equip people with the confidence and skills to act when it matters most.
RLSS UK has an impressive heritage. They have decades of experience and are honoured to boast a strong workforce of loyal members and volunteers who work with them to promote water safety and educate people on life saving skills. In the early 1900s, with support from the Royal Family, they were granted permission to adopt the ‘Royal’ to their title – a badge they are still immensely proud of today.
We are excited to partner with RLSS UK to provide accessible, high-quality training that opens doors to long-term fitness, wellbeing and leisure management roles for lifeguards and water safety professionals.
RLSS UK qualifies over 40,000 lifeguards each year, but many remain in the role for only a short time, often viewing it as a temporary job. Our partnership aims to change this by helping lifeguards build on their existing skills and explore the wide range of opportunities available to them. Through flexible training, Future Fit is helping lifeguards take the next step in their professional journey.
