How to build motivation and confidence in the gym

The gym can be an incredibly motivating environment. The music and encouragement from other gym-goers can help boost your confidence. However, the gym can also be quite an overwhelming place. Overcoming your fears is hard if you don’t have the motivation and confidence to do so. We’ll discuss how to be confident in the gym, overcome gym anxiety, and stay motivated in the gym.

Gym motivation techniques

  1. Visualise your goal
  2. Decide on your value
  3. Join a team!
  4. Routine setting
  5. Goal Setting
  6. Personal training
  7. Final thoughts

Visualise your goal

You probably know the situation where you ask yourself, “Where do I want to be in one year?”

The more detailed and empowered your self-image is, the easier it will seep into reality.

Visualising stimulates the parts of your brain responsible for motivation. So, take some time to visualise what you want to achieve in detail. How does it feel like? What do you see? And most important: Who are you there? Come up with as many details as possible to positively encourage you to stick to your goals.

Decide on your values

When you know that a goal in front of you fits into your value system, it will be much easier to stay motivated! Start with knowing what you want to achieve and why. Knowing your values will help you stay on track.

Join a team

If you want to stay motivated throughout the whole process, you should consider joining a team or studio class! It has been proven again and again that working out with other people improves your motivation. You’ll have someone to motivate you when feeling demotivated. Plus, if you are part of a team, it is more fun, and you even have people to train with!

Routine setting

It is essential that you create a weekly / daily workout routine. Your plan will keep you motivated because it gives your mind security. You can also stay updated on how well you are doing in the process of achieving your goal. But most importantly, an exercise routine gives the body and mind space to let go of all the unnecessary information.

Having a set routine to follow is another method to help people overcome their anxiety and stay motivated. Having something to follow gives you control over what you are doing and builds confidence.

Goal setting

People who train at a gym often have similar goals. They want to be fitter, stronger, and lean. For that reason, it is important to set an attainable goal or multiple goals for yourself that are achievable. This will not only give you something to focus on but also get you motivated towards your end result.

Personal Training

A Personal Trainer can be very beneficial in setting up these structures for you. They would create a Personal Training program for you that will help you accomplish your goals. The benefits of having a Personal Trainer to start are to answer any questions and set up a routine. This gives you more self-belief, building confidence, and keeps you motivated. Another way to stay motivated is to do a personal training course. This would, without a doubt, give you the know-how and self-confidence to stay motivated and achieve your goals.

Final Thoughts

The gym can be an intimidating place, especially if you’re new to it or aren’t sure of what you’re doing.

Hiring a personal trainer is by far the best and fastest way to help overcome these fears, develop gym motivation and build confidence so that going to the gym becomes a fun experience rather than something stressful and scary!
