So, you’ve already mastered the basics and can teach safe and effective Mat Pilates at beginner level. Now it’s time to extend your understanding of anatomy and physiology and develop your teaching skills to support participants of different abilities and varying needs.

After taking this course you will be able to offer much more varied and interesting exercise programmes, and your confidence as a teacher will really start to grow.

Successful completion of the School of Pilates Basic Mat Pilates course.  If you have a recognised Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology qualification that meets current standards you do not have to take this part of the course.


An interactive e-learning course followed by a 2-day practical course.


Advanced Anatomy and Physiology is an e-learning course covering:

  • The skeletal system and muscles
  • The neuromuscular and endocrine systems
  • The cardiovascular system
  • Stability
  • Posture

A 2-day practical course covering:

  • New ideas for warm-up preparations in the standing and lying position
  • Intermediate level mat Pilates exercises
  • Linking exercises to create effective sequences to intensify and add variety to the class
  • Techniques on how to modify, adapt and progress each exercise to suit individual needs
  • Common postural types with exercises and stretches to assist in muscle balance thus aiding the improvement of posture
  • How to modify exercises to offer specific exercises to your participants
  • Correct teaching practice for the exercises learned

Prior to attending your course, you are required to have completed the Advanced Anatomy & Physiology e-learning course (unless exempt and your approved prior learning certificate has been approved).

Your Advanced Anatomy & Physiology multiple choice exam (pass mark 70%) is scheduled to start at *9.30am on the 1st day of your course. Please arrive in plenty of time to sit your exam because if you are late you will have to re-book another day to complete this.

If you are not sitting your Advanced Anatomy & Physiology exam you will need to arrive at the venue by 11 am.

During the practical course you will have written and practical homework to complete. You will also be advised about which worksheets to email after the workshop to our support team on

You will receive your Level 3 Diploma in Mat Pilates certificate from the awarding body when you have passed all the required units for this qualification.
