Where did your initial interest in fitness/nutrition come from?
I’ve always been a very sporty person and played lacrosse for England as a junior before focusing on riding horses professionally. I always enjoyed training, and, having completed my degree in psychology and sociology, realised that helping others achieve better fitness, health and happiness was something that I’d find fulfilling as well as something that came quite naturally to me.
Why Future Fit?
A friend of mine had recently completed her Personal Training Diploma with Future Fit and had thoroughly enjoyed the course, and I had gone along as her guinea pig for some of her assessments and felt really inspired by the teachers on the course. The flexibility of the course was also perfect for me as I needed to work alongside my training.
My current role
I now own two fitness businesses and am in the process of developing a third. The first is the Charlotte Ord Academy, a growing chain of personal training clubs in which we offer members a comprehensive approach that not only helps them achieve their physical goals, but also supports their emotional well-being too. I spend a lot of time running the business and managing the team, but I still coach on the gym floor; I think it’s essential to stay involved with the members and coaching is something I still absolutely love.
I also have a number of online programs which help people all over the world combat emotional eating and associated weight problems, and I mentor a number of fitness professionals, helping them to develop their own businesses and grow their skillsets. I write for a number of leading health and fitness publications, am the go to expert for Sky News and Tesco’s, and am also an ambassador for Reebok, with whom I have recently opened a fitness club on Guildford High Street.
My second business is a mobile app company which is about to launch its first fitness app called FITRA, and the third is an intensive training and nutritional supplement company called ROAR, which is aimed at people who are already training regularly and want to get into the shape of the lives!
I love what I’m doing at the moment and the fact that things are always varied and developing, which keeps my work inspiring and exciting. I’d really like to do more television work, and have plans for further Charlotte Ord Academies in London and possibly Marbella and LA.
My top student tip
It’s never crowded along the extra mile.
