Boost your confidence & skills with Your PT
Future Fit Training is partnering with Your PT to offer their students a free, one-to-one PT Experience Day to boost their confidence and skills in the gym.
School of Personal Training students have the chance to ‘shadow’ an experienced Your PT trainer for a day in the gym, follow their sessions, speak to their clients and talk to gym members to give them experience of ‘walking the gym floor’. They also have one-to-one time with the experienced trainer to ask questions and learn tips and techniques.
What is the PT Experience Day?
“The PT Experience Day enables our PT students to shadow an experienced trainer on the gym floor and gives them a unique chance to practice their soft skills,” says Paul Swainson Head of the Future Fit School of Personal Training. “The day is designed to boost gym floor and client relationship skills and build confidence by watching the Your PT trainer in action before putting these newly learned skills into practice. As a result, we aim to boost our graduates’ confidence and develop new skills working with gym members.”
Future Fit Training is committed to ensuring its students have the necessary soft skills including client interaction, gym floor confidence and rapport with clients, members and colleagues in the gym environment. “These practical and personal skills make all the difference to a newly qualified PT, giving them the tools to develop and progress their career and client base quickly and professionally,” says Paul. “Our “Raising The Bar” reports have highlighted a concern among operators that many gym-floor PTs lack communication skills and confidence with clients and members. These skills come with experience, but by offering a day shadowing an experienced Your PT trainer we can give our students a head start.”
How are Your PT involved?
Your PT jumped at the chance to work with Future Fit Training on this programme. As the UK’s leading Personal Training Management Company with over 700 PTs on its books, it prides itself on its high quality, sustainable personal training jobs for Level 3 qualified PTs. It has an excellent reputation among leisure operator partners who trust Your PT to provide first-rate personal trainers, borne out by it being recognised by ukactive as a top five employer of the year at the 2014 Active Training Awards and a top five supplier of the year at the 2015 Flame Awards.
“Soft skills and gym floor confidence are crucial to the success of a personal trainer but we were not surprised to learn that many newly qualified PTs lack confidence in these areas,” says Joe Oliver, Founder of Your Personal Training. “When Future Fit Training approached us with the idea of this shadowing programme we were only too pleased to partner with them so that our more experienced PTs can share their skills and best practice with trainers just starting out in their career.”
What do our students think?
Future Fit Training and Your PT ran trial PT Experience Days in Manchester and London over the summer and the feedback was very encouraging.
Sameena Khan has just qualified with Future Fit Training. She shadowed Rupert Hambly at Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre, London on 3rd August 2016. “There is most definitely a need to keep learning after you’ve qualified as PT,” says Sam. “Rupert was very welcoming and helpful and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and came away with lots of positive vibes. I loved the chance to ask Rupert questions and receive tips first hand from him and I also learnt about my own posture and some corrective techniques: this is a great opportunity from Future Fit and Your PT.”
Julie Balchin completed her PT Experience Day at Hough End Leisure Centre under the watchful eye of Emma Thomas on 13th July 2016. “I was seriously impressed and found it really interesting and helpful. Emma was very flexible and accommodating to allow me to shadow her all day, whilst having a very full diary of clients,” says Julie. “She was a great example to follow and has a very professional and successful PT business. I could see why as her sessions were interesting, varied and challenging and her clients engage well with her. She explains everything she is going to do and demonstrates so they know how to perform the exercises correctly.
“Emma was open to all my questions and offered advice from her own experience. I think it made it easier for her to relate to my position as she has been in the job long enough to help me but not too long that she has forgotten the place I'm at right now,” says Julie. “I took away some ideas on setting up and running a PT business and found the way she took and monitored clients’ details and progress particularly helpful.”
How can you sign up?
Following a successful pilot, the PT Experience Day scheme is now available to all Future Fit Training PT students who have passed the Level 3 Exercise Programming and Coaching element of their certificate.
