5 Reasons to Become a Personal Trainer

The fitness industry is undoubtedly an industry that has experienced unprecedented growth in the last 5 years, and in many ways has defied the economic downturn experienced in many other sectors and industries.

UK Active state that in 2012 there were 5900 facilities providing health and fitness services, currently in 2014 there are 6,112 sites, a growth of 212 sites in under 2 years.

UK Active also indicated that in 2012 we had 12.1% of the population, which equates to 7.6million people, enrolled as members of health & fitness facilities. The current figure is 8.3million members, a growth of 700,000 in under 2 years.

Overall the UK Fitness Industry is currently worth a staggering £4.08billion. So it is clear that on the whole, the attitude of the general public towards health & lifestyle is changing and it is becoming a priority for some – more so than having a busy social calendar or even materialistic belongings, and therefore there is clearly a growing need for highly skilled, passionate, motivated and well trained individuals to work as Gym instructors, Personal Trainers, Weight Management Consultants and specialists in fields such as Exercise Referral and Low Back Pain (80% of people will experience this condition in their lifetime).

And that is where the Future Fit School of Personal Training comes in. Over the last 2 years we have worked tirelessly to ensure that we have updated and innovated our qualifications, not only to suit the current requirements of the industry, but to ensure that we have considered the future requirements and skills for the next generation of fitness professionals – to lead the industry, rather than follow.

Our current set of vocational education qualification packages are specifically designed to ensure that our students will be not just qualified to start work in the industry, but will enable them to thrive in business and be competitive and excel in their chosen profession.

There are currently over 30,000 registered exercise professionals working in the UK industry (REPs & Skills Active, Nov. 2014), so you need a qualification package that sets you apart from the crowd, and enables you to be competitive from day one of your new career. You only have to look at the number of vacancies for fitness professionals on the Leisure opportunities website (www.leisureopportunites.co.uk) to see the earning potential can easily grow to £50k+, with the ability to charge upwards of £50 per hour.

Because of the School of PT’s unique set up, you can structure your training package to meet the needs of your interests and future career path. But how will you know what path to select, and what if you want to make changes as you develop and learn? Well we have that covered too. We provide dedicated support staff to assist you in the initial selection process, the ongoing uptake of the individual courses and technical support to guide and develop you through the learning process.

As previously mentioned it is a competitive, vibrant industry that has so many potential options for you moving forward – whether you wish to work in independent clubs, large chains or as a freelance trainer your career prospects and earning potential is only limited by your confidence in your ability and your entrepreneurial prowess.

However, because of the level of competition in the industry you need qualifications that set you apart and that is where the Level 4 Total Immersion Diploma comes in.

The Level 4 Total Immersion Diploma gives you the essential qualifications you need, not only to be able to trade as a Personal Trainer, but to position yourself as an elite Level 4 specialist in your field from the outset of your career. So what makes up this diploma and how do the courses help you to achieve success? Well to start with we have the essential core qualifications – the ones required by the industry’s governing bodies, to be classified as a Level 2 or Level 3 trainer.

These are:

These core products will allow you to find work in the industry, or set up as a freelance instructor. They will enable you to perform to a high level and deliver quality sessions; they also cover key elements to achieving success with clients. However it has been long recognised by Future Fit that there are 3 key elements to achieving success with client goals. Firstly you must get the client psychology, behaviour change and motivation right, as without this nothing will work. Secondly it is imperative that you get the nutritional aspects under control – you cannot out train a bad diet. And finally there is the exercise element, which itself comprises many varied areas.

As such the Total Immersion diploma also includes the following, each complete courses in their own right:

  • Behaviour Change Coaching
  • Nutrition & Weight Management
  • Advanced Resistance Training
  • Exercise for Fat Loss
