Round-up of Leisure Industry Week
If you missed it, LIW at Birmingham’s NEC was a 3 day showcase of the UK’s leisure industry - with everything from children’s playground equipment to popcorn makers, and where the biggest names in the industry rubbed shoulders.
As well as seeing some sporting greats such as Ricky Hatton, James Cracknell and Daley Thompson, we met some of our partners, including VTCT, the awarding body for our new Level 4 Low Back Pain Exercise Specialist course, and numerous health club chains who either already offer guaranteed interviews to our graduates or soon will do having been impressed by the school’s approach: “you’re talking our language!” said one.
We had some great meetings which will be leading to some fantastic opportunities for members of the school in the very near future.
Battle of the functional equipment zones!
The best way to summarise the day was battle of the functional equipment zones! Although many top manufacturers were there showing off their latest treadmills, spinning bikes and futuristic-looking resistance machines, the really eye-catching displays were the ones with interactive flooring and big ‘rigs’ - frames that incorporate climbing bars, attachment points for suspended training kit and bungee cords, storage for weighted bags, medicine balls and more.
These set ups are very much the future of gyms and workout spaces, allowing you to participate in functional, enjoyable exercise routines whether that’s through personal training or small group sessions. Knowing how to use this kind of equipment is fast becoming a necessity for personal trainers, and our Integrated Equipment Training and Suspended Equipment Training courses were developed for that very reason.
We also caught up with our friends at REPs, as well as a few of you who were checking out what’s new. All in all, a great day. If you missed it this year, you should try to get along next year!
