Shortlisted at the Active Training Awards
We've been shortlisted to win ‘Large Training Provider of the Year’ and ‘Innovative Training Programme of the Year’ at this year’s Active Training Awards.
The judging panel were particularly impressed with the launch of Future Fit’s three specialist schools in 2013 (School of PT, School of Pilates and School of Nutrition), an approach that is unique among large training providers.
Why three schools?
We want the students who train with us to be the very best in their chosen profession and this is most effectively achieved by studying with a specialist school. Each school has its own team of tutors and experts who design, deliver and support our courses, ensuring they meet and exceed the highest industry standards for that discipline. But it’s not all about courses - we know that if our graduates are to succeed in the competitive nutrition and fitness industry they need more than just a certificate. Each school offers its students a whole range of discipline-specific additional extras to help make the transition from student to practicing professional as seamless as possible.
Specialist, real-world training
In terms of fostering learning, our students are able to move between each school to receive high quality training from a centre of expertise when necessary. The best example of this is the need for personal trainers to have applied knowledge of nutrition. While most training providers will teach their PT students the basics of nutrition, only Future Fit offer 5 specialist nutrition courses, all of which are certified by the Association for Nutrition, an organisation that works to advance the standards of evidence-based practice across the field of nutrition. That gives higher recognition of our students’ skills by both employers and clients.
A key feature of our programmes which we think is vital to helping you learn more effectively and to prepare for your career is realistic assessments rather than theoretical ones. School of Nutrition students must do a case study with an actual client over a period of eight weeks for their Nutrition and Weight Management qualification, School of Pilates students must bring participants with them to deliver actual classes, and School of Personal Training learners not only compile comprehensive portfolios of evidence documenting their work with real people, they also bring them along to live practical assessments where we observe them delivering sessions.
It’s not just about courses
A key addition to our programme this year is the Career Accelerator Package. We recognised that beyond technical expertise, you need high quality guidance on the business-building aspect of your role as a nutrition or fitness professional, as well as additional resources to get your career off to a solid start. In keeping with the specialist ethos it made sense to partner with organisations that can offer cutting edge support and resources to achieve that.
The Career Accelerator Packages are tailored to each school, so while they all include a sales and marketing workshop from an industry expert, a consultation with an accountant and a guide to using social media for business, the School of Nutrition version also features Nutritics dietary analysis software, an essential tool for any nutrition professional.
So we hope that has given you an insight into how and why we decided to develop this new approach to training and shows why we made it to the final in not one but two categories. Wish us luck for the awards ceremony on 27th November!
