Keeping active is the key to a healthy relationship

Exercise can be labour intensive, time consuming and sometimes painful so it’s no wonder that many of us have abandoned it all together. But if people knew the benefits exercising could have on their love life, would they change their lazy ways?

We all know that exercise is good for us. In this article we’ll find out why exercising this Valentine’s Day is just as important when it comes to maintaining a healthy relationship as it is to our physical health.

You’ll feel better about yourself

Interestingly, according to a study of physical activity published in the Archives of Internal Medicine in 1999, exercise helps to improve our disposition, releasing endorphins or ‘feels good chemicals’ that boost our confidence and release stress. Looking and feeling healthy can increase your self-esteem while making you feel more attractive.

However, it’s not just regular exercise that will help improve your love life this Valentine’s day, eating healthily is just as important. Taking responsibility to take good care of yourself makes it easier to be your best self in your relationship.

You’ll have something to do together

Remember, exercising together doesn’t have to cost a lot. You can start with going for walks, finding ways to enjoy working out together as you increase your exercise whilst building your relationship.

Any interest or activity that a couple shares and experiences together can have a positive impact on the relationship, especially when you are depending on each other to do it.

You’ll have more energy

After long periods of no exercise your body will get into the routine of becoming lethargic and lazy. Surprisingly the more you work out the more energy you will have. A partner with more energy is generally more fun to be around.

You’ll handle stress better

Reducing the level of stress in your life is essential for your own mental health as well of that of your partner. The next time you have a terrible day at work, take your frustration out at the gym, instead of bringing it into your home.

Happy Valentine’s day!
