REPs 50,000th registration

The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) has clocked up its 50,000th registration, taking the total number of active members to more than 26,000.

Registrar Cliff Collins said: “We estimate that around 65 per cent of fitness professionals are now registered with us and more are joining all the time. Hitting the 50,000th registration milestone in five years is a fantastic achievement and one which we all feel very proud of. The Register has been fortunate enough to enjoy a great level of support from the industry since it started and we hope that will continue well into the next lot of 50,000 registrations.”

The UK fitness market

Leisure-net have been commissioned to carry out research on behalf of REPs to establish the total number of Exercise Professionals working in the UK. The research will cover both full and part time workers, in all sectors of the industry and the final results are due to be published in April 2008. This is the latest in a line of research initiatives conducted to gauge working conditions in the fitness industry in the UK.

REPs latest awareness campaign
Last month saw the launch of the latest REPs national awareness campaign. Run as part of the Registers’ annual publicity drive, a media relations campaign was launched and thousands of publicity leaflets distributed, both to clubs and individual members. Packs of 50 flyers were sent out to 5,800 REPs members to publicise their membership, as well as the benefits and assurance that their registration gives to their clients.  More than 1,800 clubs and centres were also send marketing packs, containing publicity material which states that staff working on their premises are REPs members.

REPs Registrar Cliff Collins says: ‘This years’ REPs awareness campaign was designed to build on previous years’ publicity campaigns and to keep the Register firmly in the public eye.  The number of people checking our members’ registration details on our website is already increasing by an average of 20% each day.  The Register enjoys a good profile in the national media and we hope to build on that to ensure that members of the public are kept up to date with the work we are doing’.
