The Nutrition and Weight Management Course
This module will enable you to gain a thorough knowledge of the essentials of Nutrition and Weight Management so that you are able to apply it through the prescription of sound and effective dietary advice to your clients.
This superb online e-learning module is designed to equip fitness professionals like you with a sound understanding of the essential concepts of diet and nutrition. All information is backed up by scientific evidence, and is presented in a way that will enable you to apply your knowledge quickly.
With particular emphasis on weight management, this module will help you learn to identify why we eat certain foods and what influences our eating habits. Equipped with this knowledge the module will provide you with the fundamental tools to enable you to advise clients or operate a weight management clinic.
Many of the clients that you will work with as a Personal Trainer will have weight loss as a primary aim. Therefore knowledge of diet and its role in weight management is essential in order to help clients achieve their goals.
This course differs from other nutrition training courses in that it does not advocate diet sheets but considers instead how to achieve lifestyle changes. Current research suggests that lifestyle changes are the only effective way of reducing body fat and keeping it low. You will learn how to apply this research, to the benefit of your clients. This will also be to your own advantage, as the skills you gain will enhance your earning capacity.
Module Format
This online e-learning module is supported by home study. It is formatted into bite-size lessons giving you the opportunity to start and stop your training to suit your own time commitments. The module consists of fully interactive online tutorials, supported by downloadable resources, all designed to suit a wide range of learning styles. It is recommended that your computer has access to audio and a printer to complete this module, however the module can be completed in its entirety without.

• Fundamentals of nutrition:
o Factors that influence eating habits
o What constitutes a healthy diet
o Macro-nutrients (proteins, carbohydrates and fats)
o Micro-nutrients (vitamins and minerals)
o NSP (fibre)
• Optimal nutrition:
o The balance of good health: plate model
o Fundamentals of digestion
o How food is utilised for energy
o How the body stores energy
o Energy balance - the bigger picture
o Exercise and weight loss - which type of exercise works
o Body fat percentage - comparing different techniques for calculating this key area of weight management
o Food labelling and diet food
• Application of the theory
• Your role as a Weight Management Consultant.
Entry requirements
None required
Certification and credits (REPs)
At the end of the module you will be required to complete and pass a question and answer assessment based on a real life case study. Once complete and approved, you will be awarded the Future Fit Training Nutrition and Weight Management certificate and you will also receive 20 REPs CPD points.
