This Circuit Training Module will provide you with the knowledge required to set up and run effective Circuit Training Classes.

Circuit Training continues to be a popular type of exercise class found in commercial exercise facilities. It is commonly perceived as an intense form of exercise with slightly ‘military’ overtones, allowing participants to get a well-balanced and effective workout in a relatively short period of time.

In the commercial environment Circuit Training classes are usually aimed at improving general fitness. However, Circuit Training can also be used to improve specific components of fitness, energy systems, and performance in sport.

Module content

• Health and safety guidelines
• Designing appropriate warm ups and cool downs
• Designing a range of circuit class formats
• Identifying and instructing appropriate cardiovascular exercises for circuit classes
• Identifying and instructing appropriate muscular strength and endurance exercises for circuit classes
• Class management and coaching skills
• Application of the principles of overload

What you learn on this workshop will enable you, the Instructor, to design appropriate circuits meeting the aims of the group, with appropriate variations to cater for differences between individuals. The techniques you are shown will allow you to make your classes both stimulating and highly enjoyable, so ensuring that class participants will keep coming back
