Become a Gym Instructor

Gym Instructor Course

If you’re hoping to get a job in a health and fitness club (or leisure centre) you should be looking to take a fitness instructor course or gym instructor course as it is often known.

The roles of a Gym Instructor (or Fitness Instructor as its sometimes called) vary from club to club, but generally the job will include:

• providing clients with guidance, counselling, and direction on all aspects of fitness;
• designing basic gym programmes for club members;
• showing club members how to use the equipment;
• ensuring that equipment is kept clean and in full working order.

To become qualified as a Gym or Fitness Instructor, you will need to undertake the following modules:

  Anatomy and Physiology Workbooks (theory by home study)

Becoming a gym or fitness instructor is usually a stepping-stone to other careers in the health and fitness industry, the most obvious being a Personal Trainer. If you are serious about making a career out of health and fitness then it is worthwhile considering enrolling onto a Personal Trainer Diploma rather than just a Gym Instructor Course. Being a Personal Trainer will give you greater earning potential, and also a lot more flexibility around when you work – many people choose to continue in their existing jobs and undertake Personal Training on a part time basis to supplement their income.

Whatever fitness instructor course you choose, working in the health and fitness industry is both great fun and very rewarding.
