Basic Step Module

Description

Step Aerobics is a variation of a general aerobic class using a step platform to increase intensity. The teaching of effective step classes requires a great deal of effective teaching and communication skills. Once you have learned to create and deliver aerobic classes you will want to develop the ability to teach a wide range of exercise to music classes including Step, as this is still very popular in the fitness industry.

Module Content

  • Health and safety guidelines
  • The theory behind the benefits of Step training
  • Kinesiology, physiological, biomechanical implications and considerations of Step Training.
  • Basic step choreography; instructions, teaching points and adaptations for each move and sequence.
  • Class formatting and how to structure a beginner level class
  • How to build and develop choreography from base moves using choreographic variations and appropriate learning curves to suit all levels
  • Teaching skills; effective verbal and visual cueing, class communication/interaction, instruction and performance techniques.

You will learn all the basic step moves, plus: impact, direction, step approach, style, arm lines, linking and combining moves, and the use of music. This will enable you to create many hundreds of step routines for your own classes.
