Course Introduction

This practical workshop aims to provide all newly qualified exercise to music instructors with the knowledge and skills to plan and instruct a step aerobics class. You’ll learn the fundamental principles of structuring your class safely and effectively, while learning how to incorporate the basic moves and different techniques needed to create many different step routines for your own classes.

Through this course you will be able to create and deliver a wide range of Exercise to Music classes which include various Step approaches. You'll learn all of the basic Step moves, as well as how to incorporate impact, direction, step approach, style, arm lines, linking and combining moves.

Course Format
This course is a 1 day practical workshop and is supported by master class and choreography handouts and a comprehensive workshop manual.
 
Course Content
On the workshop you will learn the following:
 
  • Health and safety guidelines
  • The theory behind the benefits of step training
  • Kinesiology, physiological, biomechanical implications and considerations of step training
  • Basic step choreography; instructions, teaching points and adaptations for each move and sequence
  • Class formatting and how to structure a beginner level class
  • How to build and develop choreography from base moves using choreographic variations and appropriate learning curves to suit all levels
  • Teaching skills; effective verbal and visual cueing, class communication/interaction, instruction and performance techniques
  • How to incorporate layering techniques, impact, different step approaches, style, arm lines, linking moves and use of music
Entry Requirements
A Level 2 Exercise to Music qualification and preferably at least 6 months regular attendance at step classes.
 
Assessment
There is no formal assessment on this course.
 
Certification and Credits
After completing this workshop you’ll be awarded the Future Fit Training Basic Step Instructor Certificate.
 
You will also receive 10 REPs CPD points.
