Course Introduction

While participating in this practical course, you will learn a new set of skills to help improve your ability to plan, coach and assess a successful gym session with a client on a one to one basis. This workshop also gives you the knowledge necessary for the Personal Trainer and Advanced Instructor course.

The Gym Instructor workshop and following assessment will increase your level of understanding in:

  • The role of the Gym Instructor
  • Essential skills to help you become a professional fitness instructor  
  • The instruction of safe and useful exercises to clients

Course Format

This course is a 3-day practical workshop held on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Course Content

On this workshop based course you will be taught in a real gymnasium environment. Learning in the environment in which you will be working is a great way to get used to the methods of gym instruction. Everything you need to prepare for your practical assessment will be given to you.

The course covers:

  • Stretching
  • CV machines
  • Resistance machines
  • Free-weights
Entry Requirements

You must be 16 or over and ideally you should have regularly attended a gym for a period of time before attending the course.

Assessment

Approximately 4 weeks after the workshop has finished, the practical assessment will take place. To help you remember everything you have learned and to assist your preparation for the practical exam you will be given a DVD which covers everything you have been taught.
The assessment you take at the end of this course compromises of both practical and written assessments. You will need a willing volunteer to come with you on the day to act as your client for the practical assessment.

Certification and Credits

Upon successful completion of this workshop and the practical and written assessment (also having passed the Anatomy and Physiology exams) you will attain the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym) qualification, which is accredited by City & Guilds.
You will also receive 20 REPs CPD points.
