Course Introduction
Patient care has extended beyond visiting the GP and now includes the support of other professionals, who possess other kinds of expertise. While patient health care is the responsibility of the GP, specialists trained in exercise prescription now help manage or improve the conditions suffered by patients.
 
Taking this course can increase your appeal and earning potential as a personal trainer significantly, offering the opportunity to take on referrals from GPs in order to improve ailments through exercise.

Course Format
This is a 4-day theoretical workshop, delivered over 2 weekends.
 
This course provides the theoretical and applied knowledge you’ll need to prescribe safe and effective exercise.  
 
Course Content
The course covers:
 
  • How to develop an exercise referral scheme
  • Physical activity, health and well-being
  • Health and lifestyle screening
  • Fitness testing
  • Exercise prescription
  • Orthopaedic diseases such as arthritis and osteoporosis
  • Cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and coronary heart disease
  • Metabolic diseases such as diabetes
  • Pulmonary diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • The overweight and obese client
  • Pharmacological management

Entry Requirements
To take this course, you need to hold a recognised industry qualification in Exercise and Fitness at Level 3.
 
Assessment
The assessment consists of a worksheet and theory paper that will be completed on the workshop. Following the course you will also need to complete a case study, which is designed to test your understanding of the management of specific medical conditions and the associated exercise prescription.
 
Certification and Credits
After completing the workshop and assessment you will be awarded the Future Fit Training Level 3 Certificate in Exercise Referral which is accredited by Active IQ and you will gain 20 REPs CPD points.
 
If you are already registered with REPs at Level 3, your Certificate will be amended to include GP and Exercise Referral as a special category of registration.
