This diploma is a combination of online e-learning, practical courses (held at venues throughout the UK) and assessments that teach you the fundamental principles of structuring a safe and effective exercise to music class.

This diploma will provide you with theoretical knowledge, high quality teaching methods and great ideas for routines, so you can go on to devise and develop a variety of classes including step and body conditioning.

You will gain a variety of skills such as:

  • Learn to teach an exercise to music class
  • Learn to adapt your classes to include step and body conditioning routines

To achieve your Studio Professional Diploma you will study the following courses:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Exercise to Music Instructor
  • Basic Step Instructor
  • Choreography and Conditioning
Career Options
Once you have qualified, the opportunities for studio professionals are plentiful. You’ll be able to create and teach the most popular dance-based classes on offer in most health clubs and leisure centres across the UK. Or you can set out on your own, choosing and choreographing the classes you want to teach.

You could go on to do any of the following:

  • Teach dance-based classes at your local gym or health centre
  • Hire a local school or church hall and run your own classes
  • Work on a cruise liner as an instructor
Earning Potential
Group exercise is a popular way to keep fit, for a 1hour exercise to music class working for a gym, you can earn approximately £30-£40 per hour (London) or £15-£30 per hour (rest of UK).
If you hire your own hall or studio you can charge £3.50- £6 per person, so for a class of 15, that would be £50-£90 per class.

Do I Need Any Experience
You don’t need any previous experience to learn to become a studio professional but it is essential that you have participated in different types of exercise to music classes, such as aerobics, body pump or step.

You need to be confident with aerobic moves and be fairly fit before you attend the practical workshop. We strongly recommend that all fitness professionals obtain Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training, especially before setting up as a self-employed instructor.

Certification
This diploma will lead to entry at REPs Level 2.
