Course Introduction

In your work as an exercise professional, it is highly likely you will encounter a client who is either pregnant or has recently given birth. Increasing numbers of women are choosing to exercise throughout their pregnancy. This change has come about because exercise has been shown to be safe during pregnancy for most women, providing benefits for both the mother and her unborn baby.

This course will teach you about the physiological changes and medical complications encountered during pregnancy and how to adapt your clients’ exercise prescription to accommodate them.

This is a highly interactive e-learning course, with 8-10 hours of online study and assessment over a period of 7 weeks.

Part 1: Prenatal Exercise

• Physiological changes and physical problems during pregnancy
• Benefits and risks of exercise during pregnancy
• Safe exercising during pregnancy
• Exercising guidelines during pregnancy
 
Part 2: Post-natal Exercise
• Benefits and risks of post-natal exercise
• How post-natal conditions affect the ability to exercise
• Preparing to exercise
• Post-natal exercise guidelines
 
Entry Requirements

To take this course, you require a minimum of a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym Instructor or Exercise to Music Instructor) or Level 3 Pilates or PT Certificate.

Assessment

The course assessment consists of a theoretical case study and a short answer worksheet.

Certification and Credits

After completing the online course and assessment, you’ll be awarded the Active IQ Level 3 Award in Designing Post Natal Exercise Programmes.

You will also receive 20 REPs CPD points and progression to further specialist qualifications at Levels 3 and 4.
