Dino Georgiades from the ITV hit show ‘The only way is Essex’ has enrolled in the Advanced Personal Trainer course with Future Fit.
Dino is best known for his role ‘The Fitness guru’ from the ITV hit show. However, he has now decided to take his career to the next level and become a Professional personal trainer.
Dino explains why it is important to have clear goals when training.
As a teenager I always found it hard to motivate myself and stick to an effective training plan. I would often train at the gym three times a week; however, sometimes I would only make it three times a month. In order to see the benefits of training, you really need to keep a consistent level of training; a week off the gym, in my experience, can set to you back 3 weeks.
In my early 20's I decided to take the necessary steps to better myself, both in my career and personal life. Improving my personal appearance played a big part in this. I wanted to be both healthier and look better. In order to achieve my goals I knew I had to not only train hard but consistently.
Creating a clear goal
I found that having a goal in mind helped massively with my training. Every individual will have a different reason for training such as, a photo-shoot, to impress a partner, or to look good on the beach... but whatever it is, the important thing to remember is to always visualise the end goal.
Sometimes, I found it was better to visualise the negative outcomes of not training, and use this image to find the motivation to get off my back side and train, and say no to unhealthy fatty foods.
Setting deadlines
Along with realising your goal, setting a deadline to achieve that goal is vital. We have all been in the situation where we think 'I will start next week’; if no deadline is in place it is extremely easy to fall in to this trap. The more I used these techniques, I found that my motivation to train increased and I could push myself to the next level.
I had the added benefit of sharing the same goals as my twin brother, so we were able to encourage and push each other (Having this support really helps). When I worked alongside my brother, I found it more disappointing to let someone else down when compared with letting myself down. I would always recommend finding a training partner; however, using a personal trainer is even better.
The importance of training correctly
You can train in the gym but if you are not training correctly, in terms of lifting the weights, or using the equipment, but also in terms of training correctly for your own goals you will not see the change you want.
When this happens it is easy to become disheartened and lose motivation. I would guess this is the reason people join the gym as part of a new year’s resolution and stop going after a month.
Personal trainers can be vital in some cases, even if you use one initially to help you set out a training program that works with what you want to achieve and show you how to perform the techniques correctly. I found that once I had started implementing these ideas, the progress was clear to see. I started seeing good improvements within weeks and was really happy.
My advice to anyone having the same problems as I did is get advice, find your personal goals, be clear about these goals, and think of these every time you begin to fall off the wagon.
