Christmas weight loss techniques

21 Dec 2011 10:04 AM

The festive season is upon us once again, and for the majority of us, this means excessive amounts of over eating and drinking.  Some people will tell you that trying to lose weight over Christmas is crazy; but not impossible!

Keep eating healthy
Even though you will be tucking into that delicious Christmas dinner, it does not necessarily need to be unhealthy. Looking at the facts, a Christmas dinner (using controlled portions) can actually prove very healthy.  A typical Christmas dinner is full of essential nutrients.

Eat breakfast
Eating breakfast is just as important over Christmas as it is every other day of the year. It is not a good idea to go to a party on an empty stomach, where you are very likely to eat everything in sight.  Start each day with a low calorie breakfast including protein or fibre, to keep you satisfied for longer.

Keep up the good habits
Always remember how good you have been throughout the other 11 months of the year. Write down key points to highlight what personal goals you are trying to achieve (include pictures) so that when you are feeling the pressure from that second bowl of Christmas pudding you can refer back to it in order to bring back that motivation you had at the start of the year.

Portion size matters
Now, everyone will have experienced this same scenario over the Christmas period, where their eyes are far bigger than their bellies.  Here’s a little tip that is definitely worth remembering. Only fill up your plate with half the food your eyes are telling you and consume the food slowly. In this situation, you will be surprised by how full you will feel on the smaller portions of food.

Enjoy a little of what you fancy
The mistake many people make around the holiday season is that they believe they have a free license to pig out on everything and anything. This is not the case. Of course allow yourself a little of what you fancy, do not deny yourself those special treats. However, be sensible with what you allow yourself as it could easily get out of hand.

Replace a percentage of your alcohol intake with water
As many of you know, Alcohol provides your body with empty calories and no nutritional value. Make a pact with yourself to drink a glass of water for every glass of alcohol you drink.
Now, after reading this, does the idea of weight loss over the festive period seem unreachable? Only you will know the answer!

Happy Holidays!
