Happy People Work in Fitness

Job satisfaction is one of the main reasons people take up a career in fitness, and according to a new industry survey, fitness professionals are enjoying their jobs as much as ever.

This year's survey is the 4th year of collaboration between SkillsActive, REPs and Leisure-net solut ofions. The web-based survey has produced 2 separate reports:

REPs Member Survey - REPs members only, working in gym floor occupations
Working in Fitness survey - Members and non-members of REPs, working in all fitness occupations

The "Working in Fitness Survey' is a candid view about what it is like to work in the fitness industry, told by those who actually work in it - from Club Managers to Gym Instructors.

Of the people surveyed, 41% work Full Time, 16% work part-time, 40% are self employed/freelance and 3% are seasonal/casual workers or volunteers.  44% one for small companies (1 - 25 employees), 43% for medium sized companies (26-250 employees) and 13% for large companies(250+ employees).

Freelance working has become increasingly popular in the fitness industry and is cited as a great area for people to expand into, after they have gained experience at a gym.

9 out of 10 respondents also stated they are planning to be in the industry within the next 3 years.  Fitness professionals stated the varied working environment and options available to them, as reasons for increased job satisfaction.  This is great news for fitness professionals and shows that career in the fitness industry really can make you look forward to Monday mornings again!

The number of people qualified at Level 3 on REPs (currently their highest level) has also increased to 60% of the industry.  This further highlights the need to gain qualifications that will gain you entry at this level in order to get the job you want in the industry.  Respondents who were Level 3 qualified also reported the best salaries and job opportunities.
