Are you fed up with your job? The New Year offers the perfect chance to get a dream career that will leave you with a warm glow every Monday morning. Chris Pook explores what makes the fitness industry the perfect solution...
If asked to name a career that has the greatest job satisfaction, you may instantly think of a Premiership footballer, astronaut or even a fighter pilot. However, according to a recent study people working in the fitness industry are among the most satisfied out of all UK workers.
So why is this? Among those surveyed the main reasons given were the rewarding nature of their work and diversity encountered in the workplace. Many of the people who work as Personal Trainers, Gym Instructors, Nutritionists and Pilates Teachers do so because they love what they do and they use this to inspire others to achieve their goals.
What could be better than someone coming to for help and through a mix of your expertise, hard work and lots of fun, they achieve their goals? James Daniels, 22 trained as a Personal Trainer with Future Fit Training after having had enough of not enjoying going to work.
"It came to a point where I thought I've got 40-odd years of working life ahead of me, so I'm going to try my hardest to make sure I enjoy them", says James.
"I started my training and earned my stripes in my local gym, which opened my eyes to what could be achieved in the industry, and then I became a fully fledged PT shortly after completing the Advanced Personal Trainer Diploma with Future Fit Training."
"It was the fact that I could go to work and actually look forward to what I would be doing, that really reassured me that I'd made the right decision in entering the fitness industry. I haven't looked back since and I'm still enjoying every day."
So is becoming a Personal Trainer the only way to get into the fitness industry? Well, the other major reason for people enjoying their job so much was how diverse each day is for them. Quite often a fitness professional who is trained in multiple disciplines will find themselves doing some personal training in the morning, a nutritional consultation in the afternoon and a Pilates class in the evening. This not only ensures you meet all kinds of different people, but you aren't stuck doing the same thing day in, day out.
The health and fitness industry covers a vast array of interests, abilities and walks of life and there is something for everyone. This means it is also ever-growing, so there is always something new to grab your attention, and that of your clients.
